Banja Luka Castle


Banja Luka is a small town located in the Republika Srpska, its capital. There are few important sights here. Muslim shrines destroyed the war of the end of the 20th century, and they were never restored. The castle of Banja Luka, otherwise known as the Castel Fortress, is the main attraction of the city, best preserved and of some value to travelers.

History of creation

The Banja Luka castle appeared in the Turks, around the 16th century. Shortly thereafter, residential hovels began to be built, and then a settlement was formed. It is noteworthy that in the time of Roman rule, the legionaries broke a fortified camp here. Entrance to the site of interest is free.

What to see?

Banja Luka Castle is a tourist attraction for a family visit. On its territory there is no museum, therefore it is quite possible to do without a guide. Deepening into the cypress grove, which flooded the courtyard, you can think about the eternal, inhaling the pleasant aroma of cypresses.

Banja Luka Castle is the oldest fortress in the territory of Republika Srpska. Ivy-covered walls create a beautiful backdrop for memorable pictures, and from the sentinel towers you can survey the surroundings.

Artillery barracks, preserved best, was built already under the rule of the Austro-Hungarians in the XIX century. It fuses perfectly with the Turkish buildings, without standing out.

How to get there?

Bosnia and Herzegovina - the country is very small, so the city in it is mostly small, and Banja Luka is no exception. Public transport here is represented by good bus and taxi parks. To get to the fortress of Banja Luka it is possible on both types of transport, a taxi will come out a little more expensive. The leased car remains actual. In addition to convenience, such a way to get to the sights allows on the way to look elsewhere, for example in a cafe, to taste freshly brewed coffee and famous Arabic sweets.
