Zilhazoma of Salvini

All aquarium fish lovers have a special account of fish of the family of cichlids , and all thanks to their spectacular coloring. The brightest of them is the Cihlazoma of Salvini. This relatively small fish (body length 12-16 cm) has a bright yellow-orange color with black spots along the entire body (approximately in the middle of the trunk). The same spots, but somewhat smaller, are also located near the dorsal fin. Gill cover is decorated with bluish-green strokes, and large eyes have a red iris. Very original appearance! And another interesting fact about Salvini's cichlazome is that these fish are monogamous. Vapors are formed at the young age (about 6 months), while maturity occurs at the age of 10-12 months.

But! Care for the cichlasma, their contents are associated with some difficulties.

Contents of the Cihlasma of Salvini

First of all, the fish is very territorial and requires sufficient personal space. Otherwise, there will be constant fights, often with a lamentable outcome.

Mango cichlid (another name for these fish) does not tolerate bright light - under intense lighting it hides under rocks or under plants floating on the surface of the aquarium. As an aquarium soil is preferable to a small pebble or granite crumb. Like any predatory fish (and Mango predator), Cihlazoma Salvini prefers live food - bloodworm, tubule, small fodder fish.

And now about, perhaps, the most difficult problem. As already mentioned above, the fish needs space - about 100 liters per pair of individuals (with the content of more than two fish, for each individual should account for at least 30 liters). Moreover, the water temperature should be kept within 24-26 ° C, that is, an aquarium heater with a thermostat is needed. Some sources indicate that Mango cichlid is not demanding on the composition of water. But in this case, with the usual care, the fish can survive for 4-5 years. That she could live, delighting you with her beauty, measured to her by nature for 10 years, it is better to clean the water by biofiltration with subsequent aeration, which will require certain equipment and, as a result, additional costs. Certain parameters of water hardness and acidity should also be observed. Not every aquarist can carry such a regime of keeping fish.

Compatibility of cichlasma with other fish

Strangely enough, but cichlazomas better get along with the fish of other families, for example with swordbirds or barbs.
