Structure and basic functions of the psyche

Already quite a lot of time, as people have discovered that besides the surrounding visible environment, there is an inner world that allows you to express feelings , desires, share memories and dream.

The main functions of the human psyche are discussed below.

Reflective function of the psyche

This function can be changed and modernized throughout life. Every day a large number of factors act on a person, which affect the psyche. It should be taken into account that a particular phenomenon can have a completely different effect, which depends on the time and conditions of exposure. In the psyche reflects the most correct understanding of the surrounding world. All the images that arise in the person's mind are certain copies of really existing objects and events. Through reflection, a person can reproduce and modify received objects.

There are 3 forms of reflection:

  1. The first helps to perceive specific objects of inanimate nature.
  2. The second form corresponds to physiological reflection.
  3. The third form is the most complex and it reflects the mental state, that is, consciousness. It helps us to separate ourselves from the world around us, as well as to understand and comprehend various aspects of human existence. All this can be united by one concept - self-consciousness.

Reflective function is an active process that helps to identify and select the appropriate method of action in a particular situation. Human actions perfectly reflect the surrounding situation, as well as they have the opportunity to transform it in the process of activity.

Regulatory function of the psyche

Thanks to the psyche, a person not only has the ability to reflect the influence of the world around him, but also to regulate the process of his perception, which determines activity, reactions and behavior. Due to this, a person understands the necessary motives and needs, and also sets goals and objectives. In addition, the psyche is able to develop ways and possible techniques to achieve one or another goal. Human behavior is defined as an external form of the manifestation of the psyche.

Because of its inconsistency, the regulatory function can act in two forms:

  1. Constructive. It implies the fulfillment of certain tasks that are aimed at achieving the goal or task.
  2. Destructive. It implies the adoption of a certain decision, which has a share of risk and adventurism.

Cognitive function of the psyche

This function helps a person to adapt and to orient himself about any situation that allows him to comprehend all its aspects and realities. The psyche contributes to the fact that he can get used to any situation that has happened. In addition, a person has the opportunity to accept himself as a separate person , with all individual and psychological traits, through which he can become part of the society, or rather a specific society or group. The human psyche is a complex system in which all constituent elements are hierarchically organized and changeable.
