The Castle of Milotice

The castle of Milotice is considered the pearl of South Moravia. This is a complex of baroque buildings, located in the vicinity of Brno , the second largest city in the Czech Republic .

A small historical reference

Once the castle of Milotice was only a small fortress. However, gradually, the owners increasingly expanded it, turning it into a complex of buildings for various purposes. The first changes were made at the end of the 16th century: the castle itself was built, and stables, a greenhouse and even a riding school were added.

At the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries the castle suffered greatly from military operations. Reconstruction was carried out in the first half of the XVIII century. It was at this time that the castle acquired four wings, there were greenhouses and a bridge. Interiors were improved. This is how we see the castle of Milotice now, although, of course, after the 18th century it was repeatedly restored. The most significant was in the second half of the XX century, and also in 2005.

Excursions around the castle

Of course, the castle itself is of considerable interest. It was confiscated by the state in 1948, but before that they owned the family Zailern-Aspang.

In the castle you can see the rooms made in the Baroque style and preserved all the historical signs of those times. However, there are rooms that were returned in 2005 to the kind that they had under the last owners. The Sailern-Aspang family was once quite wealthy and owned extensive estates and lands in the district of the castle of Milotice. However, as a result of land reforms, they almost went bankrupt. As a result, the last of the Sailern-Aspangs died, and left no heirs.

Excursions around the castle return you to the past ages with their rich interior decoration.

What else is interesting to see in the castle of Milotice?

Also near the castle is a park-garden, occupying 4.5 hectares. It was created in 1719. It has a very small area, but due to the fact that some of its plots are located on terraces of different heights, an illusion is created that the garden is very spacious.

For children there is an excursion through a fairy forest where you can meet with fairies. Also on the territory of the castle there are concerts of symphonic music.

There are curiosities and unusual things in the castle and the cabinet of curiosities. Among other things, you can see a fragment of wallpaper that was glued in one of the rooms of the castle in 1750.
