Haga Church

What is interesting about Haga Church?

The construction of the church began in March 1856 and was completed after 3 years. The building project, like its interior, was designed by the architect Adolf Wu Edelswerd. The official opening ceremony took place on November 27, 1859, on the first Sunday of Advent (pre-Christmas fasting).

The Church of Haga is one of the first cathedrals of Sweden , built in the Neo-Gothic style. It is a 3-nave basilica with a triangular choir. The tower of the church reaches 49 m in height, the spire is made of gilded copper. As for the parameters of the temple itself, its width is 16 m, and the length is 46 m. ​​Such dimensions allow to be at the same time in the temple 3000-4000 to the parishioners.

  1. Organ. Of great interest to all tourists is the ancient organ in the western part of the church of Haga, acquired in 1860 for 2500 cu. from the Danish company Marcussen & Søn. Initially, the instrument had 36 registers, but due to several reconstructions and cleansing, their number increased to 45.
  2. Altar and stained-glass windows. When the church celebrated its 25th anniversary in 1884, one of the local entrepreneurs presented the church with a beautiful carved altar and a luxurious stained glass window made by PG Heinesdorffs under a special order. At the same time was presented with a brass chandelier, which was placed in the choir, and a clock in front of the ambo.
