Signs of autism in a child of 3 years

Much to our regret, in the modern world the tendency to the diagnosis of "autism" in toddlers is growing steadily. Scientists have not yet determined the cause of this deviation, but it is noted that sometimes the disease is hereditary.

Although there is such a diagnosis in the medical dictionary, in fact, autism is not a disease, as such. This is just the difference of a particular child from peers in different behavioral situations.

Symptoms of autism in children under 3 years old

As a rule, the diagnosis is made only after five years of age, but the first signs of autism in children can be noticed before the onset of 3-4 years and even earlier. Some children clearly give their behavior a deviation from the norm already at the age of a half-year old, and attentive parents can themselves suspect something is wrong.

In general, the signs of autism in a 3-year-old child are indirect and even if the parents found some of them from their child, this does not always mean the disease. The diagnosis can only be made by a competent neurologist who monitors the baby, and also prescribes a special test for the preliminary diagnosis.

So, what signs and symptoms of autism in children of 3 years need to pay attention to parents, now we will consider. They are divided into three subgroups: social, communicative and stereotyped (monotony in behavior).

Social signs

  1. The child is not interested in toys, but in ordinary household items (furniture, radio equipment, kitchen utensils), completely ignoring children's games.
  2. It is impossible to predict the reaction of the baby to a particular effect.
  3. The child is not imitated by adults, which begins in children after a year.
  4. The child always plays alone and ignores the company of peers or parents.
  5. Almost always the kid avoids looking at the eyes while communicating, but observes the lips or the movements of the hands of the interlocutor when they address him.
  6. Most often a child who has autism, does not tolerate physical contact from others.
  7. The kid is either very attached to his mother and inadequately responds to her absence or vice versa, does not tolerate it and will not rest until she leaves his territory.

Communicative features

  1. Children often talk about themselves in the third person, instead of "I" they use their name, or they say "He."
  2. The child is not developed or poorly developed speech for his age.
  3. The kid is not at all interested in the world around him, he does not ask questions.
  4. In response to a smile, a child never smiles and rarely smiles in everyday life.
  5. Often a child's speech consists of fictional words, phrases or from constantly recurring strangers, once heard words.
  6. The kid almost never reacts to the requests of an adult, does not respond to his name.

Stereotypes in behavior

  1. The child responds inadequately to a change in the situation or people in the room. He is comfortable only with the same people, the others he perceives with hostility.
  2. The baby eats only strictly selected foods and never tries anything new.
  3. Repetition of monotonous monotonous simple movements also testify to the psychiatric disorder.
  4. Small autistics strictly follow their own daily routine and are very pedantic in this.

Unfortunately, there is no medicine that cures autism. But the child will be very help to adapt in the society special remedial measures and work with a psychologist.
