The museum is considered one of the most interesting and popular museums in Chile .

History of the Museum of Rancagua

In 1950, two well-known Chilean writers, actors and history buffs, the spouses Carmen Moreno Joffre and Alejandro Flores Pinaud decided to open the museum of the O'Higgins region in Rancagua. The opening was attended by the President of Chile and other dignitaries. Two years later the family handed over the house and all the collections collected to the Directorate of the libraries, archives and museums of Chile. Nowadays the collection of the museum has more than one thousand unique items and is constantly updated with new exhibits.

Regional Museum of Rancagua in our days

The museum exhibits extensive geological and paleontological collections. They have a huge number of artifacts, showing the stages of colonization of the central part of Chile since ancient times. In one room the visitor will see stone axes and grinding elements, including those dated around the 9th millennium BC. In another room, clay and earthenware pottery, porcelain and glass items that have been in use for many years, as well as knives and forging items were collected. Material monuments of indigenous Indian culture traditionally enjoy increased interest, as well as a collection of religious symbols, including objects of worship of the Incas. Only in the Rancagua museum can you make a trip to the 19th century and see how the ancestors of the present-day townspeople lived: what objects were used in everyday life, what were they interested in, what dishes they preferred. An important page in the history of the country is the national liberation movement and the war for independence, therefore archival documents, portraits, flags, weapons, pieces of furniture belonging to Chilean heroes and their families are gathered in a separate room. The museum hosts open evenings and various cultural and educational events with the participation of schoolchildren and students.
