Psychological stability

There are people who seemingly can not get mad. We envy them and believe that they were born such, they were just lucky. However, in fact, psychological stability is by no means an inborn characteristic of a person.

What is psychological stability?

The term psychological stability of the individual in psychology itself implies the ability to maintain optimal functioning of the psyche in changing circumstances, under stress. This property of personality is not transmitted genetically, but develops together with the formation of personality.

Psychological and emotional stability depends on the type of the nervous system (which is innate), on the life experience of a person, on skills, the level of professional training, the ability to behave in society, the type of activity, etc. That is, we can summarize that one (perhaps, decisive) factor is congenital. This is a kind of nervous activity. But everything else depends on ourselves. After all, a person who has learned and won more than one trouble will be much more stable than the one who grew up in "greenhouse conditions". The same goes for the reverse side of the coin: if there was too much stress in a person's life, his nerves are simply shaken, and he reacts acutely to any detail.

However, psychological stability does not guarantee stability from everything in the world. This is not stability, the stability of the nervous system, namely flexibility. The main characteristic of psychological resistance to stress is the mobility of the psyche in the transition from one task to another.

How to increase psychological stability?

If we can not change the type of nervous activity, then we can influence everything else. We can not change the world, we change the attitude to what is happening.

So, we will begin the development of psychological stability from the very smallest. For example, you were insulted, you feel shame, anger, humiliation, etc. You can not change the fact of what happened, but you can change your reaction, which, in fact, is unsettling. Please note: you are not annoyed every time a barking dog runs by. You can also do it with an insult. Just throw it out of your head.

To increase psychological stability, it is necessary, first of all, to create comfortable conditions for life, so as not to get irritated for nothing and on an equal footing. If you are slow of nature (and this is an innate type of nervous activity, there is nothing to be done), one must build one's life so that in it there was as little haste and bustle as possible.

Secondly, it is rest for the nervous system. Well helps to stay outside the city, in nature. If your nervous system is rested, it will be more stable in the face of stress.

And thirdly, if stress arises from the constant contradiction of desires (necessity) and principles, one needs either to revise the principles to satisfy their desires, or the need that they do not contradict principles. For example, if you need to do something at work that disgusts your morals, think about changing the type of activity.
