Adenoids are organs that protect the entire body from various infections and adverse environmental effects. They represent a large amount of lymphoid tissue in the nasal cavity, and their inflammation is called adenoiditis.
Depending on the size of adenoid growth, the following degrees are distinguished:
- 1 degree - adenoids cover the top of the opener;
- 2nd degree - two-thirds of the opener are covered;
- 3 degree - the entire opener is covered with adenoids.
In this article we will consider the main symptoms and the prospective treatment of adenoids of the 2nd degree in children.
Adenoids of the 2nd degree - symptoms in children
When there is no inflammation, that is (adenoiditis), then symptoms of adenoids of the 2nd degree are such manifestations in the child as:
- at night, snoring regularly, waking up not rested and apathetic;
- the day of breathing through the nose is broken, you have to breathe through your mouth;
- complains of headaches;
- there is a violation of speech (speaks in the nose) and hearing;
- there is rarely a lag in the neuropsychological and physical development.
With inflammation of adenoids:
- temperature increase;
- the appearance of mucous purulent discharge;
- snoring in a dream with a breath stop for a few seconds.
Adenoides of the 2nd degree - treatment
There are two approaches to the treatment of adenoids of the 2nd degree in children in the acute stage: conservative and operative.
Conservative approach:
- 1 step: washing the nose with saline, 2% salt solution, Aqua Maris drops or Humer.
- Step 2: instill with vasoconstrictive drops (preferably as prescribed by the doctor), no more than three times a day and no longer than five days.
- Step 3: instillation of medications: a 2% solution of protargol, a twenty percent solution of albucid, decoction of the oak bark.
- Step 4: If necessary, a course of antibiotics is prescribed.
Simultaneously with such treatment, it is still good to conduct physiotherapy on the nose: tube, UHF, electrophoresis with calcium chloride and laser therapy.
Operative approach:
Surgery to remove adenoids of 2 degrees is carried out in the event that inflammation occurs more often, begins to delay the development of the child, develop complications such as asthma or enuresis. Such operations are of two types:
- adenectomy - complete removal of adenoids;
- adenotomy - partial removal of adenoids, but only in the absence of signs of inflammation.
But, of course, it is best to carry out preventive work, which can consist in tempering the child's body to prevent the onset of an exacerbation and in taking immunomodulators and antiviral drugs.
