Park Balyang

Geelong is a rather ambiguous city. On the one hand, there is a large port, a somewhat developed industry. On the other hand, there are several interesting sights here, and the local population take care of the environment and their own health. In the suburb of Geelong you can see a piece of wild and natural for these latitudes of nature, which inhabits many kinds of rare animals - the park "Balyang". If you are doing a kind of rendezvous over the territory of Australia - by all means visit the region.

More about the park

The picturesque and beautiful nature of the park is dictated primarily by the fact that it stands on the bank of the river Baruon River. The same factor affected the emergence of several lakes, which could not be better integrated into the surrounding landscape. Actually, because of such a peculiar system of wetlands, the "Balyang" Park among ecologists is valued. However, let's talk about what will be interesting for a tourist and a common man in the street.

The history of the park dates back to 1973, when this place was home to the Foster Folies estate "Bellberd Balyang." However, in 1959 the city council unobtrusively hinted to the owner that a decision was made to take this territory under the park, especially considering that they were regularly flooded. Either a hope for the best, or an inherent greed, but for ten years Foster Fayans did not give his consent. The arrangement of the park was a great help to the unemployed in the city, since they were attracted to these works. As a result, more than $ 80,000 was spent from the city treasury to ennoble the territory, which by that measure was quite impressive. In any case, the local residents are grateful to Foster Fayans, there and to the city council for such a wonderful corner of nature, where you can have a good rest on weekends or even after a day's work.

The real gem of the "Balyang" park is one of the lakes, among which there is a small island of land. From the shore, you can get to him through a wooden pedestrian bridge. By the way, the lakes themselves were filled not only with river water, but also with water from collectors for storm water. Previously, reservoirs were surrounded by a stone fence, but to make them more natural in 2007 they were demolished.

The total area of the park "Balyang" has about 81 thousand square meters. km. Many different species of birds have found their home here, among them the Pacific Black Morning, the Eurasian coot, the dark partridge, the motley cormorant, the mallard, the silver gull, the swan and the pelican.

How to get there?
