Johnstone Park in Geelong

Until 1849, along the territory of the modern Johnstone Park in Geelong, there was a stream, which was decided to block the dam, and 2 years later (after the tragic event took place) the dam was fenced. In 1872 this territory was converted into a park, named after the former Mayor of Geelong Robert De Bruce Johnstone, a year later a stage was built here.

Major changes were made to the appearance of the Johnstone Park in Geelong in the 20th century: the Art Gallery was built nearby in 1915, and in 1919 the park was decorated with a War Memorial dedicated to those killed in the First World War. Until 1912, the park was decorated with the Belcher fountain, but because of the construction of tramways it was moved to another part of the city, although later (in 1956) the fountain was returned to its original location and to this day pleases visitors to Johnstone Park.

How to get there?
