The complex began its work in 1872, initially bearing the name "Plain Chilwell" and occupying an area of 24 hectares. Over time, two small football stadiums were formed here, some of which are now in the military department. Since 1960, an outdoor pool has been developing. More precisely, this is a whole complex of pools, which takes into account the interests of all: elderly people, children, and those who are professionally engaged in swimming.
Over time, the younger part of the visitors diversified their leisure time, setting a water slide here. The only negative factor in the operation of this complex is its direct dependence on weather conditions - the pool works only during the warm season. In addition, it is in the park "Cardinia" that almost all water competitions of various levels are held.
In 2005, more than $ 4 million was allocated for an extensive and large-scale reconstruction of the sports complex, which was generally successful. Therefore, today the park "Cardinia" is a favorite place among the healthy people of Geelong.
