Maxisode

Maxidex is a topical drug from the group of glucocorticosteroids used in ophthalmology. The main active ingredient Maxidex is dexamethasone. The drug has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic and desensitizing properties.

Maxisec - dosage form

The drug is available in two forms: ointment and drops.

  1. Eye drops Maxidex. An opaque white suspension, in 1 milliliter of which contains 1 milligram of active ingredient.
  2. Ophthalmic Eye Maxiex. Homogeneous ointment of white or yellowish color, in 1 gram of which contains 1 milligram of active substance.

Contraindications to use are individual intolerance of any of its components, acute purulent eye diseases, microbacterial and fungal diseases of the eyes, dendritic keratitis, chicken pox and other viral diseases that can affect the eyes. The use of the drug during breastfeeding is contraindicated, and in pregnancy it is permissible only in the case when the benefit from using Maxidex exceeds the possible risk for the fetus (the treatment period is not more than 7-10 days). The safety of this medication for children at the moment is not exactly established, and its appointment is determined by the doctor individually.

Maxidex - side effects

With prolonged (more than 10 days) the use of the drug may increase intraocular pressure. If it does not measure the intraocular pressure, then raising it can cause glaucoma, visual field disturbance, and possibly slow the wound healing process. After applying Maxidex (as well as other drugs containing glucocorticosteroids) together with antibiotics, it is possible to develop a secondary infection and exacerbate fungal diseases.

MaxiDex - instructions for use

Given the contraindications and possible side effects, the drug is prescribed exclusively by the doctor, which determines the form and timing of its use. The following dosages are usually used:

Maxidex drops: 1-2 drops of solution every 2-6 hours. The first days of treatment the drug is used more often, then the gap is increased to 4-6 hours. Before use, the vial should be shaken, thrown back, slightly pulled back and dripped.

Ointment Maxidex: a strip of ointment long 1-1.5 centimeters is laid under the lower eyelid 2-3 times a day.

Ointment and drops can be combined and alternated (for example, drops in the morning, ointment before going to bed). Also within half an hour after It is recommended to refrain from occupations that require increased visual attention. Contact lenses during the period of treatment are not recommended, but if this can not be avoided, before using the medication they should be removed and put on again not later than in 30-40 minutes.
