Why can intracranial pressure increase in crumbs?
There are several reasons that lead to the development of this pathology in young children:
- lack of oxygen in prenatal development ;
- protracted labor;
- a brain tumor;
- craniocerebral trauma.
The baby's brain tries to fill the lack of air with increased production of liquid, which presses on it. Basically after birth, all the processes gradually come back to normal.
However, in some children, cranial pressure is persistent. This happens with hydrocephalus - a cluster of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull.
How to determine that the infant has increased intracranial pressure?
Symptoms of increasing intracranial pressure in a newborn have their own characteristics. So in infants, the main symptom of increased intracranial pressure, is an increase in the gap between the bones of the skull, which ultimately leads to a change in its volume. However, in older children this is not observed.
In addition to the above symptom, you can also note the following symptoms,
- drowsiness, lethargy;
- swelling of fontanelles;
- insufficient weight gain;
- presence of a venous pattern on the head.
This pathology, like increased intracranial pressure, is observed in adolescents, with similar symptoms. However, they are less pronounced, and the main manifestation of this disease are frequent headaches.
