How do children take Arbidol?

As you know, any medication has its own contraindications. That is why parents' doubts about whether Arbidol can be given to children and how to take it are justified. As for contraindications, then for this drug it is only one - the age of up to 2 years. Children up to this age are strictly forbidden to give the drug, both for treatment and for preventive purposes.

In what dosage should Arbidol be given to children?

Before giving Arbidol to children, each mother should get acquainted with the dosage, which is calculated for babies by age. As already mentioned above, the drug is prohibited for use by children under 2 years old. Therefore, the instructions show doses starting from this age.

So children 2-6 years are prescribed 1 capsule per day, 6-13 years - 2, and children after 12 years - 4 tablets with a dosage of 0.05 mg per dose. In this case, it is worth considering the fact that this drug should be given to the child immediately before eating.

As a prophylactic for children, the drug Arbidol is recommended not to be used earlier than the baby will be 3 years old, and in a dosage that is 2 times less than the therapeutic one.

According to the instructions, when treating influenza and acute respiratory viral infection, the duration of taking the drug should be 5 days, with the preventive purpose (during the flu epidemic, colds), the drug is allowed to use no more than 10-14 days.

What are the analogues of Arbidol?

Quite often mothers think about how to replace Arbidol with a child and what are the foreign counterparts. This drug is a product of Russian pharmaceuticals. Similar analogues exist in the CIS countries, only have a different name.

So, in Belarus, this drug is known as Arpetol, and on the territory of Ukraine - Immustat. All these preparations are based on a single active substance, and therefore have the same therapeutic effect.

What should be considered when taking antiviral drugs?

Any mother, even knowing how to apply and give Arbidol to children, should show her baby to the doctor and consult with him. Perhaps, there is no need for taking this medication.

The thing is that this kind of drugs lead to stimulation of the immune system, depriving it of the ability to react to changes in the child's body. In other words, prolonged use of the drug may inhibit immunity, which will negatively affect the body's resistance to any kind of disease. Therefore, in no case should you independently prescribe the drug to your child, without consulting before with a pediatrician.
