Holašovice

In the south of the Czech Republic , 15 km from Ceske Budejovice , Holašovice is located - a traditional Bohemian village, looking exactly like it was in the XIX century. Every year the historical village of Holasovice hosts thousands of tourists, who are attracted by a historical settlement in which very real and absolutely modern people live. The population of the village in 2006 was 140 people. Since 1998, Holasovice has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A bit of history

The first mention of the village dates from 1263. From 1292 to 1848, Holasovice was the property of the Cistercian monastery. The epidemic of the bubonic plague that survived from 1520 to 1525 devastated the village (only two of its inhabitants survived), and the monastery administration, setting a plague pillar in memory of the events, organized the resettlement of families from Austria and Bavaria in Holaszowice.

In 1530, the village already had 17 households, and its population was predominantly German-speaking. For example, in 1895, there were only 19 Czechs per 157 ethnic Germans. By the way, 17 yards in Holaszowice remained until the XX century.

The second decline of the village occurred already in the middle of the 20th century: during the Second World War, the entire Czech population left the village, and at its end, in 1946, ethnic Germans were forcibly evicted from their homes and deported. The village was depopulated. Its restoration began only in the 90s of the XX century.

Features of the settlement

Golashovice consists of 28 identical manors (the houses differ only in decor elements from outside) that surround a rectangular area of 210x70 m. In the middle of the square there is a pond near which there is a smithy and a small chapel in honor of St. John of Nepomuk (it dates from 1755), next to which has a wooden statue.

All the houses in the village - and those that have been preserved since the end of the 18th and beginning of the 19th centuries, and built at the end of the 20th century - are made in the style of "rural baroque" (also known as "the South Bohemian Baroque folk"), which is a mixture of Baroque and Empire . It is characterized by flowing lines and decorated gables.

There are 2 restaurants in Goloshovice: U Vojty and Jihoceska hospoda. They also go to the main square of the village.

Holidays

On the last weekend of July in Holasovice there is a folklore festival Selské slavnosti and at the same time a craft fair.

Goloshovitsky Stonehenge

Not far from the village there is another famous landmark in the whole of the Czech Republic - the Goloszowice Circle, or the cromlech. However, unlike other similar cromlechs, this is a remake: it was built in 2008. The circle consists of 25 menhirs. The basis was the stone that lay before that on the village square; it in 2000 at the site of the future "Stonehenge" was riven by a resident of the village of Vaclav Gilek.
