Gender Psychology

Before giving a definition of gender psychology, it is necessary to understand the fact that gender - social gender does not always coincide with biological psychology, and in the modern world there are at least eight of its main types.

Who am I?

The thing is that not everyone is ready to accept the natural designation of their own "I", which was given to them at birth, and their self-identification is different from the generally accepted one. But, one way or another, whomever a person feels himself, he is a member of the society with which he has to interact. And this is his relationship with the society, the role and functions that he performs in him in accordance with the psychological self-determination of his gender and is engaged in the psychology of gender relations.

Under the gender interaction, many mistakenly mean only relationships in various spheres between a man and a woman. In fact, the spectrum of such relationships is much broader and includes not only the co-activity of individuals with representatives of the opposite biological sex, but also various kinds of interaction within their gender, as well as social cooperation with members of other gender groups.

Patriarchate or ...?

Each of us has a role to play in the social order of life and is conditioned not only by the biological belonging to this or that sex, but also by the established historical and cultural traditions of the social group to which we belong.

Until recently, the society was 80% patriarchal, that is, the functions of men and women were clearly delineated in it. Today the picture is changing and especially in Western countries, the boundaries in gender psychology of leadership are almost not visible. A person is free to determine what from the generally accepted for his biological sex he takes for himself, and what not. This applies to all areas of his activities, from professional to family relations. There are many examples where a woman takes the role of "breadwinner" in the family, and the whole man devotes himself to raising children and keeping housekeeping.

With all the seeming variety of social sex in the modern world, the psychology of gender differences is not really so pronounced. Anyway, it is dominated by two traditional vectors: male and female, they simply combine with each other in various variations. The degree of belonging to a particular biological sex is determined by everyone, and this choice extends even to such subjective factors as appearance and manner of behavior.

Most people on the planet fully associate themselves with the gender that they received at birth and behave according to the roles assigned to them in society. Those who feel locked in a "foreign body" are free to change it, and the degree of radicality of such changes can be different: someone is limited to the hairdo and clothing elements, and someone is ready to lie under the surgeon's knife. But in the end, the individual will still dominate only the signs of one of the sexes. After all, nature has not created a third. Even in hermaphrodites, only the union of these two components is observed. So, gender differences, in fact, not so much and experts are much more engaged in studying the common features of representatives of different groups of social sexes.

Shut up, woman!

Despite the democratic nature of the modern world, which advocates for human rights, de facto, nonetheless, cases of gender discrimination are rare, and this is especially pronounced in the professional sphere. Gender psychology of men is such that it is difficult for them to consider a woman equal to herself due to her physiological differences and natural destiny for bearing and giving birth to children, which from the male point of view leads to a lot of inconveniences, in the form of maternity leave or ill health during pregnancy. And consequently, the workflow must be adjusted accordingly, which is not very welcome by employers. In addition, often The influence of the social and historical, cultural and religious traditions that have taken shape in the mutual relations between the man and the woman, and because of this the gears of the gender psychology of communication, turn very slowly, although, of course, the situation can not be compared with the one we had a hundred years ago.

The traditions and way of life formed by centuries can not be changed overnight, as it is impossible to compel all people to love with their neighbors irrespective of their gender identity, but to try to find a compromise in relationships, is undoubtedly necessary and whether it will be found, in many respects depends the further development of the whole society as a whole.
