FSH analysis - what is it?

The blood test for hormones is given in order to be able to detect the slightest deviations in the body. One type of such studies is the analysis of FSH. What is this hormone and what can its indicators tell?

The blood test for FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone) is given, often in conjunction with LH (luteinizing hormone). This is done in order to have a more complete picture of the state of health in general and the sexual system in particular. FSH and LH assays are considered normal when their ratio is between 1.5 and 2% of the difference.

What does the FSH analysis show?

The slightest deviation from the norm when passing an analysis of the hormone FSH signals about various violations in the body of men and women. With an increase in this rate, the doctor has the right to make one of the following diagnoses:

  1. Renal failure.
  2. Irradiation from an X-ray.
  3. Menopause.
  4. Pituitary tumor.

With a decrease in indicators can be suspected:

  1. Contact with lead.
  2. Surgical intervention.
  3. Starvation.
  4. Amenorrhea is the absence of menstruation for several cycles.

The norm in women and the general interpretation of the FSH blood test

To determine the norm, the following hormones are taken in the indices: FSH, LH, progesterone, prolactin and so on.

Prolactin is a hormone that is contained in the body of a man and a woman, but since it is considered male, it should be smaller for women, and for a man more. Normally, a woman should have 0.2-1.0 ng / ml. If it is exceeded, a pregnant woman may have a miscarriage.

FSG is responsible for the ovaries. In the case of normal - 4-150 units / l - the entire sexual system is considered healthy. With a decrease in FSH in women, two natural causes are identified:

  1. Pregnancy.
  2. Admission of hormonal drugs.

In any other case, the deviation of FSH from the norm should be considered as a sign of the disease.
