Eye patch

After surgical interventions, as well as damage or diseases of the eyes, it becomes necessary to protect them from contamination, exposure to light, temperature changes and any other external conditions that can cause irritation. In such cases, a special bandage is applied to the eye.

There are several varieties of this device, each of which is designed to perform various functions.

How to make a medical bandage by eye?

If you want to protect only one eye, you can put a so-called "cushion". It is a layer of cotton wool, covered with gauze or bandage, in the form of a rectangle or an oval with a diameter corresponding to the size of the eye socket. To the "cushion" are sewn twisted sections of bandage for tying.

Such an adaptation is easy to do, but it does not hold well and keeps slipping all the time. Therefore it is better to impose a special medical monocular bandage:

  1. Starting from the side of the damaged eye, wrap a bandage around the head along the forehead line.
  2. Repeat the steps from step 1, then lower the bandage diagonally, winding it under the earlobe, close the sore eyes.
  3. To fix the oblique course by wrapping the bandage around the forehead, as in paragraph 1.
  4. Repeat diagonal and direct bandage several times until the damaged eye is sufficiently protected.
  5. Cut the ends of the bandage and tie them with a knot from the side opposite the diseased eye to fix the structure.

Sometimes it is required to protect the entire visual apparatus, for example, after the operation a bandage is applied on both eyes (binocular):

  1. From left to right wrap a bandage around the head 2-3 times.
  2. At the back of the head, lower the bandage and direct it diagonally downward, under the earlobe, and then obliquely upward, closing one eye, and on the forehead.
  3. Make one turn of bandage around the head, then lower it diagonally downwards, to the second eye, cheek, under the earlobe and on the back of the head.
  4. Repeat the described actions several times until both eyes are protected qualitatively. Secure the bandage back with a knot.

To improve the effect of the binocular bandage, you can pre-cover the eyes with cotton pads. This will help to avoid additional irritation of the eyes with the bandage material.

Eye bandages in the pharmacy

In the late postoperative period, you can use a sterile patch that sticks to the skin. In fact, they are a special adhesive plaster, corresponding to the eye socket. Such devices can be purchased at any pharmacy, but they need to be changed frequently, since they are disposable.

There are bandages designed to temporarily limit vision to one eye, for example, with astigmatism or amblyopia. They are made of polyester material, covered with a thin and smooth polyester. Similar bandages are attached to elastic bands, the length of which can be adjusted as necessary. Moreover, they can be washed and washed.

Decorative dressings to cover the missing eye in pharmacies are not sold, they must be made independently, on order or purchase in specialized stores.

Eye patch for the night

The main condition for a full night rest, during which the hormone of sleep (melatonin) is produced, is darkness. Sometimes it is difficult to ensure, for example, on the road or in the artificial lighting of streets, which penetrates the bedroom windows.

To improve the quality of rest at night help soft cloth bandages for sleep . They are made of natural fabrics, absolutely opaque, therefore they create the most comfortable conditions for sleeping.
