Double-horned uterus

The structure of the female body does not always correspond to the average indicators. For some women, for various reasons, deviations from the norms of the anatomical structure are possible, which may be pathological or simply are the distinctive features of the structure of the body.

One of these deviations is the so-called bicorne form of the uterus - a congenital anomaly of the reproductive system, which occurs in 0.5-1% of women. So, let's see what the "bicornic womb" diagnosis means, how it looks and what is dangerous.

Signs of the 2-nd uterus

In the figure you see three variants of development of the uterus:

The first option - the normal uterus - is an internal cavity in the form of a triangle. The second presupposes the presence of a partition in the middle, which does not reach the end. In other words, it is also called incomplete (that is, not reaching the end of the vagina), and if the septum is slightly expressed, and at the base of the triangle there is only a small depression - this is the saddle uterus. A woman can learn that she has a bicornic uterus with a septum, referring to a gynecologist with the following symptoms:

The diagnosis is made on the basis of gynecological examination, probing the uterine cavity and ultrasound. However, the bicornate uterus may not manifest itself (even during pregnancy and childbirth). It is very individual and depends on the body of every woman.

Double-horned uterus: the reasons for the formation

The girl's reproductive system is formed at the end of the first trimester of her mother's pregnancy, from about 10 to 12 weeks. If at this time a woman abused alcohol and nicotine, narcotic substances, strong medications, etc., experienced a serious psychological trauma, then the probability of developmental malformations in the child is significantly increased. In this case, the pathology of the development of the uterus can be combined with anomalies of the urinary system. No less dangerous factors are endocrine (thyrotoxicosis, diabetes mellitus) and infectious (measles, rubella, chicken pox, etc.) diseases during pregnancy.

Double-horned womb: features

Because of the above symptoms, women with a two-legged uterus may have difficulty in conception and bearing of children. Here, different situations are possible. For example, if both horns of such a uterus are cavities of approximately the same size and shape, the fetus may attach to one of them, and there will be relatively little space for its development (in connection with which spontaneous abortions occur). However, with sufficient capacity of this cavity pregnancy can take place without deviations.

As for other features of a woman's life with a similar diagnosis, the menstrual period with the two-horned uterus is more painful and plentiful than usual. At the same time, the sex life of a woman, as a rule, is no different, except, perhaps, during pregnancy: with the two-horned and saddle-shaped uterus from sex during pregnancy a child is better to give up for his life and health.

Treatment of the 2-nd uterus

Operative treatment of the two-horned uterus is indicated in women who had a history of several miscarriages in a row. In this case, the uterine cavity is "connected" surgically, most often by excision and removal of the septum (Strassmann operation). If one of the horns of the uterus is rudimentary, that is, inferior, small, it is removed. The purpose of such treatment is to restore a single uterine cavity so that a woman can easily become pregnant and bear a child.
