A woman can interrupt pregnancy up to 12 weeks of her choice, but only in a medical institution. And an abortion can only be done by a doctor: any out-of-hospital abortion is illegal, and criminal responsibility is provided for it. If someone makes a woman an illegal abortion or helps to do it, then she will be held criminally liable for such an action.
Illegal production of abortion
Despite the responsibility for illegal abortion, many women decide on it for various reasons: the unwillingness to advertise a pregnancy, the gestational age is higher than that which is allowed to do it. Especially considering that after 22 weeks of interruption even for medical reasons do not produce, because the child is considered viable and abortion is regarded as his murder, and from 12 to 22 weeks of pregnancy interrupt only for medical reasons.
Since serious complications and even death of a woman are possible after a criminal abortion, for a person who has made such an abortion, criminal responsibility is provided for the illegal production of an abortion, up to imprisonment for 2 to 5 years.
Causes of complications and deaths in a criminal abortion
The methods used by a woman for illegal abortion are very different, and since they are not done by a specialist in inappropriate conditions, different complications are possible depending on the method of abortion. For abortion, chemical and medications (female sex hormones, drugs that reduce the uterus) are often used, which not only can cause fetal death, intoxication, but also bleeding due to incomplete removal of the fetal egg from the uterus.
More complications are complications when using mechanical means for abortion (introduction of various solutions into the uterine cavity, scraping the uterus cavity, vacuum aspiration, insertion of solid objects into the uterus, intentional uterine trauma through the anterior abdominal wall).
Because of such methods, not only severe bleeding can develop, but also:
- injuries;
- uterine ruptures ;
- burns of the vaginal mucosa;
- infectious complications;
- even peritonitis and sepsis;
- poisoning of varying severity;
- hepatic and renal insufficiency;
- infectious-toxic shock and death of a woman.
In the long-term period after abortion, other, not so serious complications are possible: infertility, chronic inflammatory processes of female genital organs, complications in subsequent pregnancies (including ectopic pregnancy ), postabortion depression.
