One of the most unpretentious soil-cover plants, spread all over the world, is succulent purification. Sedum, young, feverish grass, hare cabbage - all these names describe the same plant of the Tolstyan family - cleansing. Such different names of the plant it received, apparently due to the variety of varieties, the flowers of which differ from each other.
Cleansing - species and varieties
In nature there are more than 500 types of purification. We list some of them:
- sedum prominent - erect tall plant, has fleshy light green leaves and flowers of different shades of pink;
- sedum telefium - a short plant with red or pink flowers and purple leaves;
- Zybold's cleansing is a herbaceous perennial with beautiful roundish light-green leaves with a red border along the edges, grown as a houseplant;
- a compact compact - perennial with a low stalk, leaves of a gray-green color and white flowers, possessing a strong aroma;
- Caucasian clearing - covers the soil with a low carpet, large flowers in the shape of an asterisk, and leaves have shades from green to burgundy.
Cleansing - reproduction
The cleansing can be either one-or two-year plant: it can grow herbaceous perennials or shrubs, be deciduous or evergreen. The leaves of the purification are whorled or opposite, collected in flat or rounded rosettes. Tropical cleaning is grown as a houseplant, and winter-hardy - in the open ground (for example, in rock gardens ).
The sedum multiplies by dividing the bush, seeds and cuttings. Seeds are sown in the spring or autumn in boxes. When small shoots appear, they are planted in the ground. The plant blooms for 2-3 years after sowing. This way of breeding the cleansing is mainly used by breeders.
It is the quickest and easier to propagate the cleansing with cuttings. Any escape or even a leaflet is very easy to take root, only hitting the ground. The plant has one interesting feature. Sometimes it is possible to detect growing purification away from the main landings. Apparently, a leaf or a twig of sedum in this place was carried by birds or rodents. But if you try to just throw a piece of a plant on the ground, then only a weak flower will grow from it, which soon can disappear. Therefore, in order to propagate the cleansing with cuttings, it is necessary to dig and compact the soil well, spread the cuttings on a bed and sprinkle them with sand to the ground.
You can propagate the cleansing and dividing the bush. To do this, it should be excavated in the spring and then divide the bush so that on each part of it there are both kidneys and roots. Dry the pieces and put them on a new place.
Flowers cleaning - planting and care
For the cultivation of purifiers it is desirable to use the soil fertile and moderately moist, although the sedum can grow on stony ground. The place should be well illuminated by the sun, then the leaves of the plant become reddish. When planting in the soil add ash and sand. Periodically, plants should be fertilized with mineral and organic top dressing.
Planting cleaning should be regularly weed out, as the weeds on them affect the pernicious. To water a sedum it is necessary only in a drought and at landing. For the winter, the plants need to cut the entire above-ground part and hide. With the onset of spring, the cleansing is opened and inspected, removing the dry and diseased parts.
Sedum can grow in one place up to 5 years. After this planting, it is necessary to update, transplanting plants. To do this, we must cut old twigs, pour and fertilize the soil. If you want to grow a living carpet of cleaning, then all the flowers and twigs protruding above its surface must be cut off.
