Canyon of the River Tara

Montenegro is a relatively young state, on the territory of which many original sights are located . And one of such amazing places in Montenegro is the canyon of the picturesque Tara River.

More about the canyon

The canyon of Tara stretches along its channel for a distance of about 80 km, and its depth is particularly impressive - 1300 m. This canyon is considered the deepest in Europe and the second largest in the world. Its size is second only to the famous canyon of the Grand Canyon, which is located in the US.

The map of the Tara River canyon shows that it is part of the natural park of Montenegro - Durmitor . The gorge passes from one side between the mountains of Synyaevin and Durmitor, and on the other - Zlatni Bor and Lyubishna. Since 1980, the territory of the whole park together with this canyon was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In 1937, through the canyon in Montenegro, the first bridge connecting the south and the north of the country was built. He received the name of Djurdjevic . For a long time, the bridge was the only ferry from one end of the gorge to the other. The canyon of the Tara River is an amazing monument of beautiful nature, which is famous for its tourist routes.
