Location:

Kungstradgarden is located in the center of the Swedish capital, between the Opera House and the House of Sweden and is under the tutelage of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

History of creation

The first mention of the park Kungstradgarden dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1430, in historical documents, he appears as a large garden ("The Garden of Royal Cabbage"), which supplies vegetables to the table of the head of state. In due course there was a transformation of a kitchen garden in the closed garden in a baroque style. In 1825 the palace of Makales burned down, which was on the territory of the park, as a result of which the area of Kungstadgården was enlarged to the south. In 1970, the garden was transferred to the city administration, and a little later a metro station was built nearby. Nowadays the park is open to all citizens and guests of the capital, and pleases the eye at any time of the year.

What is interesting in Kungstradgarden in Stockholm?

Initially it was planned that the park would be a symmetrical composition in the Baroque style with a fountain in the center. But as a result of numerous re-planning its territory was significantly changed.

Today Kungstradgarden can be conditionally divided into 4 sectors:

  1. Area of Charles XII (Karl XII: s torg). It occupies the southern part of the garden. On it is a monument to the ruler, executed by the architect Juhan Peter Mulin and installed in 1868. The emperor became famous for numerous wars with Russia. The monument does not look too pompous, and the means for its production were collected by the whole world;
  2. Fountain of Moulin. This is a real masterpiece on the territory of Kungstadgården. On the perimeter of the fountain there are 4 bronze swans, which are characters from Scandinavian myths. The fountain is a symbol of the park and at the same time points to the geographical location of Stockholm.
  3. The square of Charles XIII. Here is a monument to the ruler (architect Erik Gustav Goethe), erected at the request of his successor - King Charles XIV of Juhan - in 1821 in the center of the park.
  4. The fountain of Volodarski (Wolodarskie).
