Beffroy

Beffroy has long been one of the main symbols of Belgium . If you plunge into history, we learn that initially there were no buildings in its place, but there was a huge bell in the center of the city that rang every hour. Through it, a signal was sent to the entire district about enemy attacks and in case of alarm. Later, this majestic object was reconstructed more than once. Around it was built a building in which they created a city archive and added bells. As in those days, the bells in Belfort ring today, indicate the hour and announce various events.

Inside the building of Beffroy there are 26 bells. They are controlled with the help of carillen - a special mechanical device with a certain program. The majestic ringing of bells you can hear at any end of the city. During the religious holidays, all bells are used, which produce a terrific ringing.

At the very peak of Belfort leads a huge staircase, which consists of 360 steps. Climbing it, you can go to a small museum to create attractions and see the valuable historical documents of the archive. You can get to the Belfort tower in Bruges by buses No.88 and 91, you should leave at the Brugge Wollestraat stop. From the stop you will need to climb to the quarter above, focusing on the high-tower attractions.

Visit Beffroy you can any day of the week from 9.30 to 17.00. During the holidays and important city events, excursions to the great sights are not held. The ticket costs 10 euro for adults, 7 for children from 12 to 19 years.
