Experienced travelers often compare the capital of South Korea with the magical New York, where, wherever you go, always waiting for something exciting and interesting. Noisy and dynamic Seoul is today the third largest metropolitan area in the world, and its population is more than 25 million people! In addition, this city deserves special attention also thanks to its unique cultural sights , among which, undoubtedly, there is the world-famous Museum of Modern Art, which we will discuss in more detail.

Interesting information

The Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul is actually only one of the four branches of the museum complex of the same name (the rest of the institutions are in Kwacheon , Tokugun and Cheongju). It was founded not so long ago, November 13, 2013, but has already gained great popularity with local residents and foreign tourists.

The idea of creating such a center was born back in 1986. At the same time a branch was opened in Kwachon, however, due to unsuccessful geographical location, only a few visited the museum, after which it was decided to look for another structure. The new department was opened in the central part of Seoul, on the site of the former building of the Defense Command of Korea.

Architectural features

The main difference and at the same time the dignity of the Museum of Modern Art in Seoul is its unique design, based on the concept of "madang". In Korea, this word refers to small courtyards inside a building with natural light, which creates a feeling of extra space. By the way, such an unusual project was developed by the Korean architect Ming Hyunzhong.

Another interesting fact is related to the layout of the museum. The whole complex is a 6-storey building. At first glance, the giant structure actually looks very cozy, because only 3 floors rise above the ground, while the rest 3 are hidden under it. Such an interesting decision was made not only thanks to skilful architects, but also because of the law that does not allow building more than 12 meters near the Gyeongbokgung Palace (the most important historical and cultural monument of Korea), near which the museum is located.
