Many tourists, especially those who first came to South Korea , suddenly discover Seoul on the new side, discovering in its features a fortified wall. Do not be surprised, because it is today the capital of the state - the largest metropolis of the country, and earlier it was an ordinary city, which was often attacked by the conquerors.

Basic information

The fortress wall is one of the most important historical sights of the capital. The years of construction of the wall are 1395-1398, and its total length is 18 km. Complex construction was conducted on a mountainous terrain in order to see the enemy in advance and be able to stop it.

The wall surrounds the city in a direction from the northeast to the southwest. Built in the era of the reign of the Joseon Dynasty, it defended Seoul for many centuries from enemy raids and defined the boundaries of the city. The greatest damage to this landmark, like many other important and valuable objects of the country, was the Japanese occupation.
