Museum of Horim


Most of the museums in Seoul are real treasures. And it does not matter whether it's a private organization or a state organization - artifacts and riches hiding behind shop windows, are able to take you back to the past and let you touch the old days. Museum Horim - one of those places where the ancient culture of South Korea can be learned by touch.

What to see in the museum?

Museum Horim joyfully opened its doors to the public in 1982. Then it was just one floor, allocated for a permanent exhibition of antiques. By the way, Horim is a private organization, and the collection of artifacts here belongs not to the state, but to very real people. Today the exposition of the museum occupies 3 floors - ground and 2 ground. There are 4 permanent exhibition halls and a thematic space under the open sky.

The museum collection includes over 10 thousand exhibits. They are painstakingly collected from all corners of the country and are divided between exhibition halls by categories:

  1. Archeology. Here artifacts are collected, the production of which dates from the Bronze Age and later periods. These are funerary urns, iron jars, jars. The pearl of the hall is the golden crown of the Three Kingdoms period.
  2. Ceramics. The collection includes 7 thousand items made of clay and porcelain, over 500 artifacts from metal and over 2 thousand art works. What is characteristic, 44 exhibits from this exhibition are on the List of National Treasures and Heritage.
  3. Works of metal. Although the previous two rooms also partially cover this topic, this collection is unique and is a legacy of Korean Buddhists and their art. The timeframe here is limited to the era of the Three Kingdoms and the Joseon Dynasty. Among the artifacts you can find bronze statuettes of Buddha, ritual bells, Buddhist monks' staffs, incense burners.
  4. Books and painting. Here you can see the collection of scriptures of Buddhism during the Koryo dynasty and a number of books of the Joseon era. In addition, the collection shows traditional Korean painting.

The infrastructure of the museum of Horim is perfectly oriented to the convenience of visitors. There is a recreation area, a cafeteria, a souvenir shop. Organized tours are conducted in Korean and English. There is the possibility of renting an electronic conductor for those who understand, in addition to Korean and English, also Chinese and Japanese speech.

Admission price for adults is $ 7, children under 18 years and pensioners - $ 4.5. For small visitors up to 7 years old, admission is free.

How to get to the museum of Horim?

To visit this treasury of antiquity, take the subway to Sillim station, and then transfer to one of the buses Nos. 504, 643, 651, 5413, 5528, 5530, 5535, 6512 and proceed to the stop of Horim Bamulgvan. From the city center, routes No.1, 9, 9-3 that pass through the same stop will suit you.
