In the Bolivian desert of Silolo is the National Park of the Andes fauna , named after Eduardo Avaroa, who fought for the country's independence. The main attraction of the reserve is a rock formation resembling a dead tree - Arbol de Piedra (Arbol de Piedra). In translation from Spanish, Arbol de Piedra sounds like a "stone tree".
The unique creation of nature
The attraction is a miraculous creation created by nature itself. The fact is that the province where the Arbol de Piedra tree is located is known for strong winds. For centuries, quartz particles and volcanic sand, which honed the rock in such a way that it began to resemble a tree, brought dry winds. The height of the natural monument is five meters.
What is a "stone tree"?
The "trunk" of the Arbol de Piedra is formed by soft rocks of biotite and feldspar. For this reason, it is prone to wind erosion. The "crown" of the stone tree is rich in iron, which is why it is much less affected by natural phenomena.
