Temple of the Sun

The Temple of the Sun (La Libertad) in Peru is located near the town of Trujillo, was built around 450 AD. and is considered the largest construction of the country. During the construction of the temple, more than 130 million adobe bricks were used, which depicts symbols that are supposedly indicative of construction workers.

This structure originally consisted of several levels (four), which connected steep stairs, during its existence the Temple of the Sun in Peru was rebuilt many times. It is located in the center of the ancient capital, Moche, and was used for various rituals, as well as for the burial of representatives of the city's high society.

During the Spanish colonization, the building of the Temple of the Sun in La Libertad was significantly destroyed due to the change in the riverbed of the river Moche, which for the convenience of gold mining was sent to the temple. As a result of predatory actions, as well as erosion of the earth, most of the building of the Temple of the Sun in Peru was destroyed, now the height of the preserved part of the building is 41 meters. Currently, on the territory of the Temple of the Sun, excavations are under way and one can look at it from afar. How to get there?

The most convenient way from Trujillo to reach the Temple of the Sun in La Libertad will be by taxi, but there is a possibility to get here by public transport , which, according to the schedule, goes to the ruins every 15 minutes (the shuttle goes from Ovalo Grau to Trujillo) .
