In fact, ludwigia is a whole family of plants that can grow on moist soil, in shallow waters, and also feel great in an artificial environment, that is, in aquariums.

The following species of this family are considered to be the most common and suitable for breeding in an artificial reservoir: Ludwigia arcuate, creeping ludwigia, swamp ludwigia. There are also such varieties as ludwigia of glandulosis and ludwigia oval. But the most popular for aquariums was a hybrid of crawling and swamp ludwigia.

Although this plant perfectly feels in the water column, nevertheless, if possible, it easily passes into the above-water phase. Therefore, if you plan to grow ludwigia not as a decor of your own aquarium, but for sale, it is better to use shallow vessels that imitate the shallow water of natural reservoirs.

Caring for an aquarium plant by ludwigia does not require special skills or complicated feeding. It is only necessary to take into account the fact that although this plant can exist for a long time in free floating form, nevertheless, it still needs to be planted in the ground. The sand or pebble-sandy soil is best for this. Well reacts plants to a variety of mineral fertilizing. Under favorable conditions Ludwigia quickly takes root and gives a good gain.

The water temperature for the Ludwigia plant should not fall below 20deg; C or rise above 24deg; C. This species needs good lighting, so it is better to use a fairly powerful lamp for the aquarium.

For the aesthetic appearance of your artificial reservoir, a great role is also played by the landing site of ludwigia. Since this plant is quite tall, it is recommended to plant it closer to the back wall of the aquarium or at its lateral surfaces, which will create a beautiful frame for the smaller ones.

Ludwigia multiplies easily enough. It is necessary to cut off only one of the lateral or upper shoots, without touching the main plant socket. In this case, the stem should be at least 10-12 cm long, otherwise ludwigia will be difficult to get accustomed to in a new environment, to give roots and to begin full-fledged growth.
