Pura Lempuyang


In the eastern part of Bali , near the village of Tirtha Gangga is the Temple of Pura Lempuyang. Indonesians consider it to be the most important temple complex on the island, and believe that Pura Lempuyang Luhur, along with 6 other temples, protects Bali from evil spirits. This magical place is called a "ladder to heaven" or "dear to the clouds".

Pura Lempuyang Features

The complex includes 7 temples, each of which is located above the previous one and has its name:

  1. Pura Penataran Agung is the lower temple, to which are led three parallel staircases. For visitors only the left and right ones are intended, and only priests can walk on the average during ceremonies. Traditional for Bali, the split gate of the temple symbolizes the balance of forces in nature and in life.
  2. Pura Telaga Mas - its name translates as "the temple of the golden lake". Rising even higher, you get to the fork. Up to the upper church you can climb the stairs for 2-3 hours, or, after making a large circle, examine along the road 3 more beautiful temple structures. In this case, it takes about 5-6 hours for the road.
  3. Pura Telaga Sawang is a "temple of magical water".
  4. Pura Lempuyang Madya - the fourth in a row.
  5. Pura Pucak Bisbis - the temple of the newlyweds, is located on the Hill of Tears.
  6. Pura Pasar Agung is a shrine at number 6.
  7. Pura Sad Kahyangan Lempuyang Luhur - the most beautiful temple, located on the top of the eponymous mountain. From here, from a height of 1058 m above sea level, a beautiful view of Mount Agung and rice terraces opens up. Near the temple, the sacred, according to the local believers, grows bamboo. On holy days holy water, extracted from it, sprinkles all who came to the temple.

Features of visiting the temple of Pura Lempuyang in Bali

Tourists are advised to follow certain rules:

  1. To enter the temple, visitors need to wear a sarong - the so-called traditional attire, consisting of a piece of cotton cloth. Men wrap a sarong around the waist, and women - above the chest.
  2. Those who have visited here are advised to come to the temple from the very morning to see everything. Take warm clothes with you, since the top is quite cool, frequent fogs and low clouds. Shoes must also be suitable: comfortable and with a non-slip sole. Do not interfere and a reliable stick-stick.
  3. On the way to the temples you should keep the purity of nature and your thoughts, do not pronounce rude words.
  4. The temple complex is open daily from 08:00 to 17:00.

How to get to Pura Lempuyang?

It is easiest to get to the temple complex from Amlapura, following towards Amedu . From the Amlapura-Tulamben road, your car should turn south towards Ngis and drive for 2 km, then following the road signs, you have to drive another 2 km along the serpentine road to KEMUDA. And before the temple it is necessary to go on foot, having overcome 1700 degrees.
