Temple of Brahmavihara Aram

Religion occupies a special place in Indonesia and largely influences the development and preservation of local traditions and customs . Buddhism, Christianity and Islam - the three main world religions - are side by side on each island , practically in every locality of the Republic. There are many amazing and beautiful religious buildings in the country. And if you were in Bali , be sure to visit the temple of Brahmavihara Aram.

The main thing about the shrine

To date, the Temple of Brahmavihara Aram is the largest and almost the only remaining Buddhist structure on the island of Bali. The temple and all the religious buildings of the complex were built in 1969, but full-fledged work began only in 1973. The total area of the temple complex with the whole territory is 3000 square meters. A prominent religious figure, Girirakhito Mahathher, took part in the construction.

The temple is active, periodically here they organize special retreats for meditation with visiting teachers, but also welcome independent attempts. For students there are houses where you can stay, a dining room and everything you need for training. From the temple area offers an excellent view of the surrounding area: the ocean and green rice fields .

What is interesting about the temple?

All the buildings of the temple complex are built in a single traditional Buddhist style. Here you can see the classic elements - golden Buddha statues, orange roofs, an abundance of flowers and vegetation, a very bright decorated interior decoration. Also, all the walls of the temple are decorated with carvings, characteristic only of the Balinese. It is believed that the temple of Brahmavihara Aram is a kind of copy of the Javanese church of Borobodur .

Of the elements of Bali Hinduism in the interior of the temple of Brahmavihar Aram there are bell-shaped decorations in architecture and formidable naga near the entrance to the temple. These ornaments, made of dark stone, look unusually attractive. Rare purple lotuses bloom in the courtyard fountain.

Buddha's statues are very different and are located in all poses throughout the temple: both in gilding, and simple stone or painted. At the temple there is a historical gallery with photos on which important events from the life of the temple are imprinted.

How to get there?

The temple of Brahmavihara Aram is located 22 km west of the town of Singaraja . It is more convenient to get there by taxi, trishaw, or rented car . Regular long-distance buses do not go here. The nearest stop in Lovina is 11 km from the walls of the temple.
