Akamas National Park

The Legend of the Park

The answers can only be given by the mythology, which states that the son of Theseus Akamas was forced to settle in these places after being expelled from Athens. He built a big city here and named it in his honor. The city began to quickly populate and grow. Aphrodite herself soon became the patroness of this place.

Akamas has a sandy beach called Lara. Its main inhabitants are sea turtles, which nest on the shore. Sea turtles have become an endangered species of animals, so the special authority constantly monitors that nests can not destroy anything (animals, waves, etc.). If you visit the beach in September, you will probably see small turtles emerging and running into the sea. This is an amazing sight.

Impressive on the island and the local fauna. Among the "inhabitants", Vultura griffins are the most prominent - the rarest species of predators that have been nesting here recently. Impressive in the reserve and butterflies, there are more than three thousand (25 species, 16 in the red book). Catch them not allowed, but you can take a picture. In the Akamas National Park you will see wild flocks of goats that live in their natural flora. In the main, their flocks graze in the hills. On the wild rocky beaches and gorges of the peninsula you can encounter amphibians and mammals. Only brave people go to this part of the peninsula, because there are many poisonous snakes.

Safety in the park

Akamas National Park can be unsafe. Why? Firstly, many plant species (especially Cyprian) can cause allergies, so bring along the right medicines. Secondly, visit the park careless tourists who may not notice and step on the snake or the house of the spider. Take an antidote and the necessary medicines for these cases. Thirdly, you can get various injuries (abrasions, scratches, etc.) on rocky coasts, green for these cases will be enough.
