One of the most famous sights of the Swedish city of Helsingborg is Jacob Hazen's house, a mansion built in the mid-17th century, in which today there are a restaurant, a hotel, several conference rooms and a banquet hall.
Exterior and interior
The building was built in the Neo-Gothic style. It has two floors, the second - console. The house is half-timbered, of red brick, has a high pitched tiled roof. On the street North Main Street there are arched gates.
The northern and southern wings were built later; the southern wing was erected in 1855, the convoluted - in 1929. The building is decorated in warm brick and ocher tones. In the Blue and Red halls, you can admire the ceiling hangings of Hugo Gehlins; they depict scenes from the history of Helsingborg and from the life of the first homeowner.
In 2005 the building was reconstructed. Today, modern facilities look appropriate, and the restaurant, banquet hall and some other rooms have preserved their historical appearance.
A bit of history
The first owner of the building is Alderman trader Jacob Hazen. It was on his order and this house was built - the only thing that was preserved from the once large farm. In the southern wing of the building, in its time there were stables and other economic objects. The building was one of the few that survived the Swedish-Danish war of 1679: then many structures were dismantled to serve as material for the erection of fortifications.
In 1726 the house was purchased by priest Jones Ronbek and was used as a place of worship. In January 1914, he was acquired to become a sugar factory. In 1929, the house was restored and acquired the kind that still exists today. At the same time, the northern wing was attached to the building. The architect of the restoration was the architect Gustav Widmark.
