Helsingborg Town Hall

On the streets of Helsingborg through the facades and walls of medieval buildings, history tells us. Despite the bloody wars and destruction, the city was able to preserve and convey the same atmosphere when it seems that just around the corner a carriage appears from the window of which a noble lady will decorously look, or the clatter of the hoofs of a tired horse going by the bridle nearby with a warlike knight. And incredibly majestic, but at the same time restrained, the Helsinki City Hall appears in front of the tourist as a revived image of history, which is here and now.

What is interesting about the Town Hall in Helsingborg?

For more than a hundred years, the center of Helsingborg has been adorned by a majestic red brick building. It is considered the second most important construction in the city after the tower of Chernan , but most tourists tend to give priority to the Town Hall - so its kind brightens the surrounding landscape.

What we see today is the result of the overwhelming success of the young architect Alfred Hellenstrom. He barely managed to get a diploma of the Academy of Arts, as in 1889 he already won a competition for the best project for the reconstruction of the Helsingborg Town Hall. In 1897 the construction was successfully completed.

In 1965, the outward appearance of the building was supplemented by an annex in the form of a chapel, in which once registered marriage. Today, on its roof, there is an observation deck, where everyone can admire the opening view of the city. It is interesting that the model of the old Town Hall building is cast from bronze and installed as a small monument on the square in front of the building.

Appearance

The first thing that catches your eye is the bell tower. In height it reaches 65 m and is made in the Neo-Gothic style. However, this architectural design accompanies all decisions in the building, but in some places baroque elements are seen. For example, it is in this style that the staircase leading to the main entrance to the structure is finished.

Helsingborg Town Hall has 4 floors. On the perimeter of the building are built 4 round towers. The roof is finished with a slate with a copper shade. The facade of the building is now adorned with interesting architectural details, including numerous turrets and stained-glass windows, showing some historical events.

Today Helsingborg City Hall still plays the role of an administrative building. Here are several offices of city management structures, meetings of the municipal council are held.
