Plaza of Spain (Mallorca)


The Plaza of Spain (Mallorca) is one of the most famous squares in all of Spain; is located in the heart of Palma . The square is adorned with a monument to Jaime I, the first Christian ruler of Mallorca , who won the island from the Moors. The monument was erected in 1927, the author - the sculptor Enrique Clarazo. Many streets and avenues of the city - such as Calle de los Olmos, Calle San Miguel and others - converge on the square. The square received its modern name after the victory of Franco in the Civil War; before that it was named Porta Pintada.

The square serves as the venue for many mass festive events. There is also a field for hockey. And in any of the cafes, located on the square, you can taste the dishes of traditional Spanish cuisine.

Shopping

Not far from the square is the shopping center El Corte Inglés - the store of one of the most famous shopping network in Spain (which by the way takes up the fourth place in the world). And on the grocery market Olivar, located in the vicinity of the square, you can buy vegetables, fruits, fresh fish and seafood and any other food products.

The main transport hub of Palma

The bus station from which intercity and intercity buses go, the railway station and the metro station are united into a single complex, which has made the Plaza de España the main transport hub of Palma .
