The vascular system in the human body is very complex and effective drugs are needed to restore its normal functioning. These agents include Actovegin - injections of this drug solution can be performed intravenously, intraarterially and intramuscularly, and also used for infusions (droppers).
Drug Actovegin in injections
This drug is based on the natural component, deproteinized gemoderivate from calf blood. As auxiliary substances, sodium chloride and purified water for injection are used.
There are following forms of release of Actovegin in the form of a solution:
- 2 ml;
- 5 ml;
- 10 ml;
- 250 ml (bottle).
The first three dosages are for injection, the latter type is used for infusions.
What are the injections of Actovegin for?
The active ingredient of the medicament stimulates regenerative processes, improves trophism and metabolism in tissues. In addition, gemoderivat from calf blood increases the consumption of glucose, oxygen and intensifies energy metabolism.
As a result of using the drug, cell resistance to hypoxia (oxygen starvation) improves, as well as their energy resources.
The listed actions cause indications for the use of injections of Actovegin:
- pressure sores ;
- ulcerative skin lesions of various origin;
- trophic disorders of the cells of the dermis and epidermis;
- secondary regeneration processes;
- cardiovascular and metabolic disorders in the brain tissues, including ischemic stroke, cerebral insufficiency syndrome, severe craniocerebral trauma;
- operations on transplantation of the skin;
- skin damage due to radiation, nerve tissue, mucous membranes;
- arterial angiopathy;
- ulcers of the legs and the consequences of their appearance;
- ischemia and hypoxia of various internal organs and tissues;
- venous and arterial vascular disorders;
- chemical and thermal burns;
- edema of brain tissue of various etiologies.
The method of use and dosage of a medicament depends on the disease, its severity and the nature of the course. Initially, injections of Actovegin are administered intravenously or intra-arterially in 10-20 ml. If a drip infusion is necessary, 250 ml of the solution is required (the rate is 2-3 ml per minute). The procedures are carried out every day or 3-5 times a week. After relieving the exacerbation of the disease, injections of Actovegin are given intramuscularly or by slow administration of reduced doses of the drug (5 ml) intravenously. For infusion, the drug can be mixed with saline or glucose.
Side effects and contraindications of injections of Actovegin
Negative effects occur mainly in the form of allergic reactions:
- sensation of flushes of blood to the face, neck;
- itching and burning of the skin;
- hives;
- increased separation of sweat;

- copious lacrimation;
- increased body temperature;
- dull headache;
- nausea (in the first 30-50 minutes after the injection or dropper);
- swelling of the skin, large joints;
- anaphylactic shock.
Among the contraindications are the following:
- anuria;
- increased sensitivity of the body to blood components;
- pulmonary edema ;
- pathological fluid retention in the body;
- oliguria;
- heart failure of decompensated type.
It is important to note that before the start of treatment it is necessary to conduct a sensitivity test, since Actovegin often provokes anaphylactic reactions. At the slightest manifestations of an allergy, you must stop using the medication.
