On this day in a number of countries the International Day of the accountant is celebrated, the professional holiday of all workers of the credit and debit. This date was chosen because of the publication on 10 November 1494 in Venice of the work of the "father of accounting" Luke Pacioli "Everything about arithmetic, proportions and geometry." One of the chapters of the book contained important information about accounting accounts. This was the first work on the methods of double-entry bookkeeping, the work that was the basis for the creation of some widespread accounting work. The book was able to describe the main part of the accounting cycle in the same form as it is known at the present time.
Day of the accountant in the CIS countries
November 18 in Belarus, there is a national holiday - Day of the accountant. Indeed, a holiday of a national scale, because a person with an accounting diploma in Belarus does not only compile and account for the accounts. Accountants here, in addition to various accounting functions, perform the work of financial directors, managers, analysts, external and internal auditors. Their duties and interests include managing capital, controlling, calculating taxes, analyzing, reporting on taxes, statistical reporting and much more.
In Ukraine, the celebration of the Day of the accountant falls on July 16. The date of the holiday was not chosen by chance. The fact is that on July 16, 1999, the Law of Ukraine "On Financial Reporting and Accounting in Ukraine" was adopted.
This Law and today determines the legal basis for the organization, regulation, accounting, as well as the preparation of financial statements in the territory of Ukraine.
Until 2004, the holiday was celebrated unofficially, which significantly increased the prestige of the profession, and, therefore, forced the representatives of the government to take a different look at accountants. Moreover, it allowed to realize that today accounting is not just tax reporting, but also a solid basis for making various managerial decisions.
In Kazakhstan, the fixed date for an accountant is October 6. Here this professional holiday is called "Day of the auditor and accountant of Kazakhstan".
