World Poetry Day

Who among us did not try to write poetry at least once in his life, or did he come up with rhyming lines to valentines in a hurry to congratulate the dear, dear person with a text that could provoke a storm of emotions of admiration or excite a man with words .

Many will agree that poetry is an ideal and refined way of expressing one's own thoughts, feelings and opinions. But, unfortunately, today this method of explanation is not so important and in demand in society. That is why, just over a decade ago, the World Poetry Day was founded - which calls to reflect on how many of us are "feather geniuses", which we probably do not know about.

International Poetry Day

Thanks to modern communications, many really talented writers manage to show the fruits of their creativity in social networks or a narrow circle of friends and relatives. However, there is much evidence that our culture in the 21st century simply dies and needs urgent intervention and attraction of people to lyrics, romanticism and writing poems.

In this connection, on November 5, 1999, the UNESCO Society at the 30th Congress in France signed a resolution on the establishment of World Poetry Day celebrated on March 21 (World Poetry Day). In 2000, the festival, celebrated for the first time, was aimed at reviving the poetic culture, familiarizing with creative activity and developing poetry in general, not only people but also commercial publishing houses and the media.

History of the World Poetry Day

Until now, it is not known who became the first author of this poem in the world. According to one famous historian, Thomas Peacock, the daughter of the Sumerian ruler, En-hedu-en, was voiced a kind of anthem, in honor of the glorification of the gods, which laid the foundation stone for the poetry of ancient people.

The initiative to establish this holiday belongs to one famous American poetess Tese Webb. She suggested choosing the date of the birth of Virgil, the great philosopher and poet, to be chosen as the date of the celebration, which was approved by many, and already in 1951 in the countries of America and Europe the celebration was already on October 15.

If you take deeper, the World Day of Poetry appeared several centuries after the appearance of writing. In those harsh times, they composed ode, in which glorified warriors, defenders and miners. Now it is more a form of self-expression than a need to praise someone and admire someone like it was in the time of Homer and Sophocles, therefore, this kind of poetry perceives society a little differently.

Nevertheless, one can not argue that when the first consonant, intertwining lines form on a sheet of paper, and create a beautiful chime, where everything is set forth so sincerely, and from the heart, it enthralls, inspires labor and gives the power to create further.

Events for the Day of Poetry

At the initiative of UNESCO, in many European countries and America this day is celebrated already at the level of the national holiday. As a rule, on March 21, on World Poetry Day, solemn evenings are held, where many young novice writers can get acquainted with more experienced specialists in the field of literature and writing, read their works to the public, find useful tips and simply relax in society creative people. Such events allow publishers to provide services to those who wish to move forward and grow, rather than bury their talent.

Also, the International Day of Poetry is solemnly celebrated by students of philological faculties, schools, publishing houses of magazines, newspapers and almanacs.
