Weaving a chest of newspaper tubes

Weaving from the vines is quite a difficult and troublesome business, but recently an interesting trend in needlework appeared - weaving from paper tubes, which allowed us to use the weaving technique from the vine and at the same time simplified its process. In this master class we will get acquainted with technology, how to weave a chest of newspaper tubes.

Master class: weaving a chest of newspaper tubes

You will need:

The base of the chest

  1. We take a small cardboard box of the right size. Mark its side faces after 2 cm and draw the vertical lines.
  2. At the bottom of the box on the lines we make holes at a distance of 3-5 mm from the bottom. In the holes we insert the tubes and from the inside we glue their ends. If the box is small, then the ends of the tubes can be fixed from below at the bottom of the box.
  3. From the outside, the tubes are lifted vertically along the lines and fixed with pegs on top.
  4. We do weaving from the tubes around the side of the box. Weaving "chintz": horizontally one tube lead along the vertical bases, alternating the passage in front and behind. The next series is changing the alternation.
  5. When finished weaving, at the top vertical tubes bend inside the box and paste.
  6. Cap
  7. We take a cardboard box and cut out a rectangle of length equal to the length of the chest, and width - 10-15 cm more than the width of the chest, depending on the future height of the cover. Bend the cardboard with a rubber or wire, as in the photo.
  8. We draw a pencil on another cardboard bending the blank of the lid, putting it on its side.
  9. Cut the two blanks of the side of the lid with newspaper tubes.
  10. We glue three parts of the lid for the trunk from the inside with the help of strips of paper 3-4 cm wide, bent corner. If necessary, in some places we cut the strip.
  11. We weave the lid with straws by weaving "chintz".
  12. By gluing the ends of the tubes to the inside of the lid, we glue wooden slats on top of it to its edges.
  13. We collect the trunk.
  14. We glue a strip of dense fabric (wide braid) at the junction of the lid and the box.
  15. From the outside, place the junction of the two parts with paper.
  16. Inside, the box is pasted with a thin white paper.
  17. If you glue the tubes outside to the bottom of the box, then close them, pasting the cardboard. We make the legs from the coiled tubules.
  18. From the fabric to the size of the bottom of the trunk, cut out and glue the lining.
  19. The outer surface of the trunk is painted with paint and varnished in 2 layers. When weaving a trunk with tubes made from newspapers, it is necessary to paint the product with paint carefully at the end of the work, so that the text does not appear through.

That's such a beautiful trunk we got!
