Villa Dolores

In the capital of Uruguay, you will be able to visit an amazing place that adults and children love. It's about a small, but very interesting zoo, Villa Dolores. In it you can calmly, pleasantly and cognitively spend time with the whole family and get acquainted with representatives of different kinds of animals.

From the history

At the end of the XIX century, Villa Dolores was the property of one wealthy couple. Owners, to diversify their lives, and also stand out among other rich neighbors, decided to create their own exotic nursery. Its first inhabitants were racoons and peacocks. The collection of the home zoo grew with time, lions and zebras appeared in it. After the death of the owners, the animals, like the villa itself, were transferred to the city authorities. The rulers decided not to destroy such an amazing collection of animals and created a zoo that is open to visitors even today.

What to see?

Villa Dolores is much smaller than other zoos in the country. Its territory takes a small quarter. Despite this, there are about 45 species of animals in the enclosures: giraffes, lions, llamas, zebras, elephants, etc. The zoo is divided into three parts: in the first - fish and snakes, in the second - parrots and swans, in the third - predatory and exotic representatives of the fauna.

For the comfort of visitors on the territory are several playgrounds, cafeteria, benches and fountains. This amazing place is open all day, so you can slowly, positively spend time in it with young children and enjoy your vacation .

How to get there?

Near the Dolores Zoo is the bus stop Alejo Rosell y Rius, to which almost any bus can take you. If you set off on a private car, then you need to drive along Gral Rivera Avenue to the intersection with Dolores Pereira Street.
