Prado is an ancient area of Montevideo with beautiful architecture. The area is famous for the fact that the entire Uruguayan aristocracy used to live here and that here is the most beautiful park of the city. The park is of the same name with the district name - Prado.
What is interesting about the park?
The largest public park in Montevideo - Prado - was founded in 1873. The total area occupied by the land is 106 hectares. The park is located in the northern part of the city, and through its whole territory flows the stream Mighelet.
In addition to trees and plants, Prado Park is decorated with interesting monuments:
- Stagecoach is a sculpture created by Jose Belloni and installed in the Prado Park on February 22, 1952. The monument is dedicated to the first settlers who master the territory. He depicts a jammed wagon, the driver of which displeases the horse;
- Monument to the Indians of the Charrua tribe - El monumĂ©nto a Los CharrĂșas. The local population was completely destroyed by Europeans, only four of them managed to escape. But the three Indians died on the way to France in 1833, and the last representative of the tribe - a little later. The names of all the martyrs are carved at the bottom of the monument.
