St. Nicholas Day is a magical holiday, which our children are especially fond of and waiting for. In the morning they look impatiently under the pillows to find there sweet "little nicholas" and pleasant little things from the most beloved of us all, the Holy One. In order not to disappoint the kids, we will soon start making gifts on St. Nicholas with our own hands.
A gift to Nicholas with your own hands
The most important symbol of this holiday - fragrant honey gingerbread , which is called "nikolaychiki." According to the belief, St.Nicholas himself bakes them together with the angels. And even despite the strict fast, they add milk, eggs and sour cream, because they are meant only for children.
For gingerbread we need the following ingredients:
- flour - 2 cups;
- egg - 1 piece;
- sugar - 1 cup;
- honey - 1 tablespoon;
- soda, extinguished with vinegar - 1 teaspoon;
- butter - 50 g;
- sour cream - 2 tablespoons;
- vegetable oil - 1 spoon;
- a little cinnamon.
All ingredients must be mixed, kneaded and put the dough for an hour in a cool place. Then roll out into a centimeter thick, cut with molds and bake on a baking sheet for 5 minutes in a preheated oven.
For glaze you will need 3 egg whites, 2 cups of sugar and food colorings, if you want to make drawings on gingerbreads in many colors. Whisk the proteins until thick foam, gradually enter the powdered sugar and stir until the consistency of thick sour cream. This glaze can be applied all kinds of drawings, which then freeze.
Gifts for St. Nicholas Day
Another popular gift for St. Nicholas Day is the angels themselves. There are so many options for their execution. We offer a couple to choose from.

To create angels, you need to first take small foam balls and paint them with white acrylic paint.

Angels to the Day of St. Nicholas
Another kind of angels is also not difficult to do. On New Year's Eve they can be placed on the Christmas tree as decorations, but in the meantime please the kids by hiding them next to the pillow.
For the head, you can use the same foam ball or roll it out of threads, fabric, cotton wool or sintepon. The main thing is to form a tight ball and fix it with threads.
The basis of the angel is carved from cardboard. You need to first put a pattern on the cardboard. Its dimensions are 8 cm in diameter along the outer circle and 1.2-1.5 cm in the inner circle. It will take not a whole circle, but a little less than its half.
Gluing the cardboard, glue the head of the future angel. You should get these blanks here.
For dress use any shreds available. Simply cut out identical semicircles from the body and cover the body. Do not forget about the sleeves.
