Vaduz Town Hall


Vaduz Town Hall is a building erected specifically for holding meetings of the municipal and city council of the capital of a small state of Liechtenstein . It is located on the central street of Vaduz, in its northern part. This is one of the main attractions of the city, which every day visits a lot of tourists. The building is built in the style of the European Middle Ages and is distinguished by the strictness and classical simplicity of the forms. It has a rectangular shape and is complemented by such original architectural elements as a high gable roof and an attached Gothic tower. Around the building, located in the business center of the capital, there are the Central Bank of Liechtenstein, the Museum of Art , the Museum of skis and winter sports , offices of companies, shops. Since Stadle is a pedestrian street to visit them, you will not need cars or public transport .

The eastern side of the town hall is decorated with the emblem of the Vaduz commune, made of stone. On the southeast side of the building you can see a fresco depicting St. Urban, the patron saint of winemakers, who holds a vine in his hands. This indicates that in the past the capital of Liechtenstein was famous for its wines. From the same side to the Town Hall Vaduz adjoins the Town Hall Square, paved with red plastic slabs. The northern facade of the building has a bronze sculptural group depicting dancing horses with characteristic round beveled croups.

Inside the meeting room is decorated with stylized portraits of the princes of Liechtenstein, belonging to different dynasties that ruled the state, since the Middle Ages. Here you can also see the portraits of the mayors of Vaduz and the rulers of the principality (since 1712).

Rules for visiting the Town Hall

In order not to waste time, when visiting the town hall of Vaduz, consider the following:

  1. It is open from Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 11.30 and from 13.30 to 17.00. Other times you will be able to inspect it only from the outside and take a photo of the building from different angles.
  2. It is most convenient to travel around Liechtenstein and its capital on your own car or take a taxi. The last option will cost you 5 Swiss francs plus 2 francs for each kilometer in addition. But the city has such a small area that it is possible to reach the town hall and in particular the town hall by bicycle or by walking. If you are going to Liechtenstein from Switzerland by rail, get off at Sargans station and take bus number 12, which goes through the center of Vaduz and will bring you directly to Stadlet Street, where the Town Hall is located. Walking a little further along the main street, you will see many other important attractions - Vaduz Castle , Postal Museum , Liechtenstein State Museum , Government House and Vaduz Cathedral .
  3. When visiting the town hall of Vaduz you should not be too noisy and especially smoke, chew gum or eat food and drinks: this is a public place where many important political and economic issues of the country are being addressed.
