Trebyshnitsa River

The Trebishnica River is a river flowing in Bosnia and Herzegovina . Its length is 187 kilometers, almost one hundred of them run underground. Trebyshnitsa is the longest underground river in the world, which of course the Bosnians are proud of. Despite the fact that most of the "life" of the river passes under the earth, it is still the most important sight of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

General information

The length of the river is relatively small, while Trebishnitsa flows through the territory of several states, including Bosnia. It attracts tourists with its ambiguity, as if playing hide and seek with people. A stormy current can suddenly go underground and just as suddenly a few kilometers will appear. Which, of course, looks very impressive.

The river has the strongest hydro resources, it is used for irrigation, and therefore plays a crucial role in supporting the agriculture of Bosnia. Now four hydroelectric stations are built on the river, in the near future three more will be built. When constructing the first two hydroelectric stations, two artificial lakes Bilenko and Gorichko were created, which today serve as a recreation area for the townspeople. There are neat beaches with developed infrastructure and water attractions, where you can have a great time.

Historic Landmark

On the left bank of Trebyshnitsa in the territory of Montenegro is a large cave Krasnaya Stena. It is valuable in that it left extremely rare traces of human activity, which date back to 16,000 years before our era. The Red Wall is like a history book of those times, archeologists were able to discover the most valuable finds: household items, drawings on the walls, clothes and much more. Today artifacts are kept in the National Museum of Montenegro. The river played the most important role in the life of the settlement, therefore the research of scientists and archaeologists does not bypass the reservoir.
