Tile in the hallway

Choosing a floor covering for the hallway, you must at least "kill two birds with one stone": make this room highly aesthetic, because it is here that the guests get a first impression of the apartment and the owner, and also ensure a durable and wear-resistant floor, because it gets all the dirt in the hallway , dust and moisture from the street. And tile as nothing else copes with these two tasks. But it also needs to be able to competently select and beautifully pack.

How to choose a tile in the hallway?

Tiles in the hallway should be selected in accordance with such parameters:

  1. Water resistant . This property is extremely important here, since from the street we bring a lot of moisture - it drains from wet soles and umbrellas. As a rule, tiles have a low water absorption coefficient, about 3-6%. So you do not have to worry about this.
  2. Lack of slip . Glossy tiles in the hallway - this is the direct path to the trauma.point, if not today, then tomorrow. If there is a slight moisture, such a coating becomes super slippery. It is better to choose a tile with a rough surface, matte, embossed or with an anti-slip coating. The coefficient of friction should not be less than 0.75.
  3. Wear resistance . This indicator should be at the level of 3-5 classes. In any case - not lower. This term implies the stability of the coating to various external factors. And the higher the class, the more tile resists wear.
  4. Resistance to chemical attack . Cleaning today is carried out mainly with the use of household chemicals. So, tiles must withstand such aggressive effects. The degree of chemical stability should be maximum - A and AA.

Tile options in the hallway

If before all the tiles in the hallway on the floor was presented ceramic and only, today there was a choice between several species.

  1. The tile or ceramic tile in the hallway still remains the leader. It is made of burnt clay and has excellent resistance to wear. It is presented in a wide range of colors, with all sorts of inserts, drawings, borders. According to its texture it can be smooth and relief, and for the floor in the corridor the second option is preferable. The disadvantage of this tile is its fragility. If a heavy object is dropped on it, it will crack or break. In addition, such a floor turns cold.
  2. The ceramic tiles are particularly strong. It is made using a technology similar to that used for the manufacture of marble: by mixing two types of clay with the addition of crumbs of granite, quartz and feldspar. Raw materials are processed at high temperatures and under pressure. The difference between such a tile and ceramic is that the pattern is applied to its entire thickness, and not just to the top layer. Its cost is an order of magnitude higher, but the performance characteristics are more attractive.
  3. Quartz tile is a relatively new floor covering, which has already settled in many houses. It is produced on the basis of PVC with the addition of quartz sand. Tiles are considered natural and harmless. Thanks to vinyl, this tile is very durable and absolutely not afraid of impacts and other mechanical influences. In addition, this tile is flexible and warm. Can have a glossy and matte surface, in the hallway it is better to lay a tile with a relief surface that does not slip. An additional advantage is that this floor tile for the hallway can be with a pattern for wood , marble and other natural materials.
  4. "Golden" tiles from South Korea - a new finishing material, which received its name due to the highest performance characteristics. It consists of a natural crushed stone with the addition of polymers. The bottom layer consists of PVC, above it are granules of stone mixed with natural resin. The central layer consists of fiberglass, followed by a film layer with a pattern applied to it and two protective films resisting the erasure and burning of the tiles.
