Modern lighting design has many options. Bulky chandeliers are in the past, and new, more practical types of room lighting have appeared. We bring to your attention the LED ribbon, widely used today to illuminate the ceiling . It looks like a flexible tape along which conductive paths are marked and diode lamps are located.
Advantages of using a diode tape to illuminate the ceiling
When choosing the type of decorative lighting, pay attention not only to aesthetic, but also to operational properties. For example, an LED strip for lighting a ceiling has undeniable advantages:
- it is easy to mount and, accordingly, dismantle;
- LED strip will never be broken like, let's say, a fragile chandelier;
- the choice of colors for lighting is very wide;
- light strip for the ceiling will serve you very long, up to 10 years;
- its cost is relatively low;
- diodes consume a minimum of energy, so this option is very economical.
Choosing a light ribbon for the ceiling
LED ribbons are different, and they differ not only in the color of the light bulbs:
- According to the type of LED, tapes with marks SMD 5050 and SMD 3528 are distinguished. The first of them is more powerful and, accordingly, more expensive;
- according to the density of the diodes, they are such: 30, 60 or 120 diodes per meter, while the more diodes per meter, the brighter the ribbon will shine. This is relevant for functional lighting, if the LEDs are the main source of light in the room, and not a decorative element;
- on the degree of protection from moisture, LED strips can be waterproof (with silicone insulation) and non-moisture-proof;
- there are tapes of all the primary colors (blue, red, yellow, green, white, etc.), as well as RGB-tapes, working in full-color mode. Pay attention to the design of the particular room that you are going to decorate with LED strip, and the so-called psychological effect of each color;
- LEDs from different manufacturers differ markedly in price. When choosing, take into account their quality: light bulbs in cheap ribbons burn out more often, and over time, they often break the balance of colors.
If you decide to use the LED RGB-ribbon for your lighting design, pay attention to the presence of controllers, in other words - control systems that can change the brightness and color of the ceiling lighting. Otherwise, the tape will only emit white light.
Features of mounting LED strip
You can install LED lighting each, for this you do not need to be an expert. The tape is placed either behind the ceiling skirting board or on the gypsum board cornice.
As a rule, LED strips are sold for 5 meters, and the first thing to do is cut the tape into pieces of the required length. Do cuts only in specially marked places, otherwise you risk ruining the device. When installing the tape on the ceiling, pay attention to the frequency of cutting - as a rule, it differs for different tapes.
Then you need to prepare the ceiling surface (carefully clean it of dust), remove the protective film from the tape and paste. Connect the tape as follows: connect the controller to the power supply and the power cord, and the tape itself to the controller. The basic rule here is observance of polarity.
Lighting the ceiling with LED strip is a practical and at the same time original design solution. It will help to make your interior more stylish and functional.
