The temperature of the teeth in children

It is well known that teething in babies can be accompanied by an increase in body temperature. But when young parents face such a discomfort with their child, they still have a lot of questions. The ideal solution in this situation will be to contact your pediatrician. But what if, at night or on a day off, when the call of a district doctor is impossible, the child suddenly had a high fever on the background of teething? Then you will not be bothered to get acquainted with the theoretical basis of the "dental" question.

When teething in children, the temperature plays the role of a protective mechanism. The tooth grows, cuts the gum, which swells and inflames. The organism reacts to this inflammation with such protective reactions as fever and increased salivation (saliva plays the role of natural antiseptic).

Doctors are very divided about the question whether such symptoms as temperature, cough, runny nose and diarrhea can be a direct consequence of teething. However, one thing is certain: during the emergence of milk teeth, local immunity is markedly reduced, and the child can very easily catch a viral infection. In this case, you should consult a doctor who will examine the baby and prescribe him a symptomatic treatment. Before the arrival of the pediatrician, take the usual measures to alleviate the condition of the child: give plenty of drink, do not force the baby to eat, with a runny nose, rinse the nose with saline solution, and gums can be lubricated with a special gel.

The temperature on the teeth in children should be knocked down as well as the normal temperature, if it exceeds the 38-38.5 ° C mark. To do this, use drugs containing ibuprofen or paracetamol (baby syrups, candles). Do not forget that many antipyretic drugs have an analgesic effect.

A very important point is the calmness of parents, because children are very sensitive to emotions. Let the child feel the confidence that comes from you: it will do him good.

Features of teething in children associated with temperature

  1. Most often, children get fever with the eruption of molars (first and second molars). They have, unlike the incisors, not two but four vertices, i.e. the area of the tooth itself is larger. Because of this, the tip of the tooth is cut more painfully for the child.
  2. The upper fangs, the so-called "eye" teeth, also come out hard. They received such a name because of the facial nerve that passes by them. When these teeth are erupted, children not only have a fever, but they also worry about pain, in some cases symptoms similar to those of conjunctivitis may appear.
  3. The temperature on the teeth in children, including when attaching a viral infection, can last up to 7 days. If the reason for this is precisely the inflammation of the gums, rather than the acute respiratory disease, then the temperature will drop immediately after the tooth will protrude above the gum surface.
  4. When a child has permanent teeth, an increase in body temperature may also occur. This occurs less frequently than with the appearance of milk teeth, but it is also a variant of the norm. This is especially often observed in the eruption of chewing teeth.
  5. Along with the heat of a child, diarrhea is also often disturbed. It looks like a quickened stool of a softer consistency than usual. However, the doctor should determine the cause of its occurrence, since the temperature and diarrhea in a child can be a sign of not a teething but a dangerous intestinal infection. Therefore, the appearance of these symptoms, as well as vomiting or rash is the reason for the immediate call of a doctor.
