Facts from history

  1. The Danish Royal Theater is one of the oldest theaters in Denmark , founded in 1722. In 1728, the building of the theater was burnt during a fire in Copenhagen, for a long time no one was restoring it.
  2. The construction of the new building of the Royal Danish Theater began on the orders of King Frederick V in July 1748. The main architect of the project was Nikolai Aytweid, under his leadership the construction of the new building was completed in December of the same year. During its existence, the building was rebuilt and rebuilt more than once, the main purpose of which was to increase the spectator seats in the hall and expand the stage.

Activities of the Royal Theater of Denmark

By the end of the 18th century, there were 3 main collectives in the Royal Danish Theater: opera, ballet and drama. In the life of the drama theater, G.-H. Andersen, and in the ballet - Aug. Bournonville, who headed the ballet troupe from 1829 to 1877.

In 1857, the Royal Theater of Denmark opened a choreographic school, in 1886 - dramatic, and in 1909 on the basis of the theater, opera classes were opened. Currently, the theater has three active sites - the Opera House, the Theater House and the Old Stage.

You can reach the Danish Royal Theater by public transport - by buses 1A, 11A, 15, 20E, 26, 83N, 85N, 350S (stop Kongens Nytorv.Magasin) or by metro to Kongens Nytorv st station.

The Royal Theater of Denmark cash desks are open from Monday to Saturday from 2 pm to 6 pm, the cost of the visit will depend on the presentation, but usually it is at least 95 DDK.
